My so-called greenthumb

As you can see, I am a plant killer, a perpetual brown-thumb aficionado, who, though with good intentions, kill the lovely little green things that I continue to buy, nurse to death, and love for their short lifespan in my domicile. These are 2 of my latest acquisitions, and although I think one is Aloe, I have no idea what the other is. Pathos, however, seem to hold on to life here somewhat better.

The plant-gene, was lost on me, and I find that hard to fathom, because for generations, the women in our family have had great luck with plants. My mother, could take cut roses, sent to her for many occasions, stick them into a potato and plant them, only to end up with glorious rose bushes that thrived for years.

And then there is my daughter, who can cultivate anything green.

I however did get the craft-gene, and Mo, did not wish to cultivate that one so much. She has a recessive craft-gene, because, although she has the ability, she does not have the desire so much.

I have a ton of gardening books, and I have gone so far as to bake potting soil in the oven (to the screams of my Mom) only to be rewarded with a very lush and happy weed. So I have resigned myself to the task of giving lovely green things a short, but well loved life and early death.

AFairwell to Terry

A new Angel got his wings today

One of the sweetest souls I had the pleasure to care for, passed from this life to a much better place a little over 24 hours ago.
His name was Terry, and everyone who had the pleasure to know him is feeling the loss. Terry had a smile that would light up the cosmos, and even though he had no voice, you know he could make you laugh just by the twinkle in his eyes.

May the Creator, hold him in the palm of his hand, and give him all that he lacked on earth.

Giving thanks

Today is the first time I have been able to buy groceries since the accident back in mid September. Today I treated myself to cream puffs, coffee ice cream, and a new book (which for the life of me, I can't find) With the temperature in the low 30's, and nothing on the idiot tube, I planned to cuddle on the couch with a good book, a cup of coffee, and something sweet. Well, I have tons of books in my yet-to-read pile, so until the new book turns up, I'll make due. "Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful", so, "Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!"

THE YEAR IS NEARLY OVER!

Here we are again in the last month of the year. It is hard to believe that, not only is it the 12th month, but also nearly the 9th year of the new millennium. It seems like only yesterday we were all worried about the computers failing to handle 2000, but I still haven't started on my New Years Resolutions for last year!

Here's to all the friends we lost in 2008. I wish them well on their journey. Here's to all the friends we still have with us. Here's to family here and gone...2 and 4 legged both, for they hold a special place in our hearts. And here's to all that we may meet and touch in all the days to come.

Today, I shall take some time to reflect on all the beauty and love that has touched my life in the last 60 plus years, and thank the Creator for all the blessings I have received, and hope you all have a few minutes to reflect on all who touch your life, also.

Life after court

Last Tuesday, I had my first hearing concerning the denial of my comp. injury. It seems like everything went well, but I need to see another comp. doctor sometime in January.

But, at least I got my first paycheck since mid September, and luckily it came in on Wednesday, just in time to get the fixins for Thanksgiving.
Romeo and I had Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday evening and leftovers on Thursday midday.

I bought the pumpkin pie, (BIG MISTAKE) and had the ORIDA steam and mash potatoes, home-made cranberry sauce, and had an entire jar of Heinz gravy. Not quite a traditional Thanksgiving, but not bad considering, I had to work 2:45 to 11.

No family here, but the DD called and we shared a few laughs about past meals and faux-pas!

Happy Turkey Day

Today will be like most Thanksgivings at my house...or should I say at work, because that's where I'll be spending the day. The Supervisors do set out a spread of cookies, cold meat, rolls, and snacks for the staff, and we usually cook a big Thanksgiving dinner on the cottages, but we are not allowed to do it on Thanksgiving, as dietary had the holiday meal prepared for the individuals.

I see my DD will be on the road to the in-laws, and is a bit upset that there will be no left-overs, but they will be doing the "Big Meal" on Friday.

I made my mini-meal lastnight, chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie, and the left-overs will be going with me to Polk, today.

My world is loosing its laughter

I have just been invited to a "going away" party for one of my friends. It's not your usual going away party. She's leaving us for good, and wants to have her wake before she's too sick to appreciate it. I will miss her, and her WILD sense of the absurd. God hold you in the palm of HIS/HER hand, until we meet again!
