Samhain

For those who believe, this is the time of the new year. This is the time the veil between worlds is the thinnest. A time to say goodbye to the recently departed and welcome into the world, those to be born soon.
Blessings to all believers, and a wish that we all celebrate the lives of all who touch our mortal existence.

A Fairwell to Richard

Yesterday, my dear friend passed away. His life was not without difficulty, strife, or pain. Nor was it without love and true friendship. Richard was an enigma. Few people understood the tender heart he kept hidden or the great loss he felt at the pain strangers who judged him for appearance sake. He would give you the shirt off his back, feed you his last morsel of bread, and comfort you when you were in need.
I met Richard in fifth grade, back when those who questioned teachers were thought to be disruptive and not inquisitive. He was therefore self taught, well read, and more honest than most. Richard grew up with his father, mother, 2 brothers and a sister. He lost his mother at the age of 21, and his brother Jerry, (who was one of my first crushes...and was totally gorgeous!) died when Richard was about 33 or so. Bill, Rick's dad died and then the tragedy of the loss of his first born granddaughter (this tore out his heart). Richard loved 4 women, the love of his life died young, the next cheated on him and the last 2 loved him to the best of their ability, I know, because I was one of them. He loved his daughter, and my daughter as if she were his own, and she loved him. He will be missed.

Same Old - Same Old

The middle of last month, while doing my job, I injured my arm. The numbness in my left hand and the shoulder pain, caused me to report the injury to my supervisor, who immediately (well after filling out the paperwork) drove me to the hospital. I have been off work since then. Last week, or so, I received word that the comp carrier, decided it was NOT a work related injury. Needless to say, I have been without income since 9/16/08, but being independently poor, I will survive!
At least they are paying the medical bills. They have advised that I cannot return to work without doctor's permission, and cannot collect unemployment, because I can't work, SAME SH*#, different day. Don't ya just love the $5/hr bureaucrats?

Gotta Love Bureaucracry

In September, I got hurt at work and have been unable to lift so much as a pot of coffee...but the compensation providers have rejected the incident as not being work related. I was assisting a patient out of his chair when he fell backwards, his elbow came down in the crook of my arm and caused numbness in 3 fingers, pain in the shoulder, neck and low back, so bad that I could not take a deep breath. My supervisor had to drive me to the hospital......BUT, comp says that is not a work injury.
Last Tuesday, I was informed that they are not paying my wages, because of the determination, but the union, (Yea, I am a member of the AFL/CIO) has provided me with some options, and thank Goddess, because at 60, I have grown accustom to the small things in life, like heat, and food!
