HELLO AGAIN!

I realize it has been forever since I have posted, no excuses, just not much going on.
On the lighter side, I have heat and hot water, the taxes have been paid for another year, and repairs are coming along well, so far. The kitchen cabnets have nearly all received their first coat of primer and we are awaiting the return of our handy repair man to instll the ceiling and wall in the dining room and replace the panneled wall with fresh drywall.
I am still moving furnature in from the other house, but have lost interest in most of what is there.
Work is just about the same, not much new there either.
I am batteling this most recient flu that seems to be going around. But have not missed any work because of it.
When last we talked, Mo and Bily were coming up for their reunion, and it was so nice to have them and the girls (dogs) visiting. A good time was had by all.

Here is hoping everyone has a great Fourth. Celebrate and be safe!
The weather here is not too cooperative, but since I have to work, it does not matter. We will celebrate indoors and all will have a great time, regardless.

Just a few words to let everyone know I didn't fall off the face of the Earth. Today is the last of my days off for this month, and still the couple has not shown up, and I have way too much to do before the kids come home next month.
Today I want to bring down some books before they get ruined, some more of the dishes, the baking pans, the stereo and the printer.
The weather is getting hot and humid, and 2 of my girlfriends just lost their refrigeration because of the strain on the compressor. I just pray every night, because right now I cannot afford another bill.
Everyone should be able to retire at 62, because this old body really wants to just stay home, bake cookies, watch "True Blood", read and play with my dog. To say my get-up-and-go got up and went would be an understatement. But with so much to do, both at home and at work, I can't stop.
, I am still not dressed, so I have to get off this and get my a$$ in gear...talk to you all, later.

Just another day

Mo and Billy will be coming home for a class reunion in July, and I am so excited to see them. The problem is that the couple I gave my house to still have not got me moved in and they seem to disappear every time I get a day off. The agreement was they would move me in and do some minor repair work and yard work, and I would give the house to them for just the cost of the taxes. Luckily nothing has been put down on paper, since my printer is still at the other house.
Today I went up to assess the damage at the other house, being empty so long has taken its toll. Most of my wardrobe is ruined by mold, the furniture can somewhat be salvaged, but the mattress is ruined, and mice have invaded and chewed my baskets and linens to shreds.
My next and final days off are the 24th through the 27th, and I am determined to be moved in.
Mo has a green thumb and while she is here I intend to pick her brain to landscape what I can then I can start saving to get a new hot water tank and get the furnace installed before next Winter.

Dinner Dance 2010

With all that is going on at work, I decided to take advantage of the overtime, and signed up today and got it! This will help with the new car payments.

Today is the annual dinner dance, and since 2 of us are off and one is out sick, it would have been hard for the only staff to work with 2 trainees, so Jan and I signed up to work.

The ladies always seem to have a great time, and it is so nice to see them enjoying themselves, that it doesn't seem like work.

SPRING

OH, what a beautiful day! First day I have truly enjoyed in so long, and just couldn't deny myself a long ride with all the windows down.
Had a doctors appointment early and an apt. with the garage for an oil change, and treated myself to breakfast.
The doctor says I am a good candidate for a double knee replacement, but that is something I want to put on hold as long as possible. She agrees, IF rest and pain meds allow it to heal, but if in 4 weeks the pain persists, she wants to try cortisone. Oh well, maybe I'll end up being the $10,000,000 woman! LOL!

Back to work today!
I had every intention of going in yesterday, but the day turned into a comedy of errors.
It started out that as I was leaving I grabbed a bottle of coke, and for some reason, it was sticky, so I put my purse and keys down , went to the closet for a wipe, cleaned the bottle, checked that the door was locked and walked to the car.
Opened the car door, and was talking to the neighbor, and the car door closed and locked...with my purse inside! UGH!
Then I went back to the house to call someone to open the car...house locked...UGH #2! I had to break a window to get in, called the police who informed they do not open cars, unless a child or pet is inside. I then called a towing service, and went to meet them out back.
In my haste, I twisted my ankle and fell backwards down the cement steps. I hurt! I crawled back in the house and called work, who gave me a hard time, because I was 15 minutes late to call off (need 2 hours)UGH #3!
I started to go get a cup of coffee to take a pain pill & muscle relaxer with, and lo and behold...my keys, right there on the counter. UGH#4!
Called the tow service, cancelled, and took the medication, and applied a hot compress, and promptly fell asleep!

Oh how I missed everyone so much. Just being able to check in and get an idea of what is going on in the outside world, gives me so much peace.

Again, work is stressful, people being moved around, the cottages are so warm, and the employees are so unhappy.

The house is not being done as fast as I would like, and the bills were out of sight for the winter.

Thank heaven the seasons are changing, the sun is shining, and life is looking up. I called in sick today, because my back was killing me and I was having trouble keeping food down. So...I cuddled up on the couch, got extra loving from my dog, great conversation from my daughter, plenty of rest, it is still early, and I am feeling sooo much better.

What a difference...

a
a day makes. Just got a call from the garage, and the fuel pump is fine, dirt in the line, they put $10 worth of gas in the car and it is running fine, they found my wallet, and the tow was paid for by my insurance.
Looks like 2010 is going to be a great year after all!

WTF!

This year started out bad and has progressively gotten worse.

I have had some problems with heat, since moving in, as I have a new furnace sitting in my kitchen as of yet not connected, an old condemned furnace still sitting in the basement, needing removed, a small gas vent less heater in the dining room that is next to worthless, and 3 electric heaters running full tilt and keeping the house at about 50 degrees.

The house has a half basement, and the water to the kitchen has frozen for the second time this month.

The car needed inspected, and the brakes went out, but that turned into a major repair, as the master cylinder was the problem, the front left brake drum and rear left brake drum had to be replaced along with struts and springs, costing nearly a thousand dollars and leaving me without transportation to work for 8 days. Upon getting my car back, I had a 5 day long weekend, and today was on my way to work, when half way up a hill, about 2 miles from town, my car died. I walked back to town to the grocery store and called the tow service, and then called work, where I was told I could only have one hour of emergency time to get to work. The garage informed me that the problem was the fuel pump and it is going to cost a couple hundred dollars to fix.

I got to work with about one half hour to spare on emergency time, only to find out that I have somewhere lost my wallet...no license, no insurance, no credit cards, no checks, and no money.

Well, so how was your day?

Thursday Thirteen

I have been away for a while, but this is one meme I always enjoyed, and miss.

Thirteen reasons to like getting older

  1. You can enjoy the "Senior Menu"

  2. People hold the doors for you

  3. You can say what you think, and no matter how tacky your comments are, people accept it is because "you're old!"

  4. You don't have to remember names, and can ask "WHO ARE YOU?" repeatedly

  5. You get discounts, everywhere!

  6. Nobody comments on your lack of taste when you wear outlandish outfits.

  7. You never get carded at the bar!

  8. You can change the subject in the middle of a conversation, and people just go along with the flow

  9. You can wear comfortable shoes (sneakers) with everything

  10. You can take naps in the afternoon

  11. Little children like you

  12. You can have selective memory lapses

  13. You can finally get to retire

Winter

Well, the ol' white stuff is getting pretty deep, and the cold is creeping into my bones. More and more, I find myself hating this weather, and longing for Summer.

I keep looking forward to retirement, when I can pick up and move to a better climate, but every time I turn around, things keep plotting against my plans. At one time, I could look forward to retirement at the ripe old age of 62...but now I have to work to the age of 65.

When I started at Polk, I could retire with full pension after five years of service once reaching retirement age...since then it has gone from 5 to 10 to 15, and is now 20 years, and the new contract will probably move that up yet again.

It is a good thing that I have a burial plot here, because the way things are going, I will more than likely be dead before I can retire.

I do love to look out on the beauty of the season, but more and more, all I worry about is falling and breaking something. Funny how that takes some of the pleasure of enjoying the season and turns it into a real threat.

I have no family here, and most of my friends, are spread out about town, and rarely even call or return calls. Everyone is so tied up with work and family, that they rarely get together any more. Which contributes to the fear of falling that I recently have adopted. But all being said, Winter though beautiful, is a season for the young, when sled rides, ice skating and countless other activities negate the numbing cold that settles into my old bones.

New Year's Resolutions 010

This year, I am going to only make resolutions I know I can keep!
1. I promise to play on the computer and waste countless hours doing nothing.
2. I promise to eat things I like, especially if they are not good for me.
3. I promise to try countless diets for one day, and then forget about it!
4. I promise to watch shows on television that allow me to zone out.
5. I promise to procrastinate...but maybe later.
6. I promise to spend too much on junk.
7. I promise to eat out too often.
8. I promise to laugh at AFHV, and not feel guilty.
9. I promise to cry when I am sad.
10. I promise to feel strongly about some things and feel nothing about others.
11. I promise to love my family, friends, and my dog.
12. I promise to worship as I choose.
13. I promise to read for my own entertainment and not because "IT" is what everyone is reading.
14. And finally I promise to try to keep my resolutions, this year.
Here is hoping you all can make and keep the resolutions that make and keep you happy.
