What a difference...

a
a day makes. Just got a call from the garage, and the fuel pump is fine, dirt in the line, they put $10 worth of gas in the car and it is running fine, they found my wallet, and the tow was paid for by my insurance.
Looks like 2010 is going to be a great year after all!

WTF!

This year started out bad and has progressively gotten worse.

I have had some problems with heat, since moving in, as I have a new furnace sitting in my kitchen as of yet not connected, an old condemned furnace still sitting in the basement, needing removed, a small gas vent less heater in the dining room that is next to worthless, and 3 electric heaters running full tilt and keeping the house at about 50 degrees.

The house has a half basement, and the water to the kitchen has frozen for the second time this month.

The car needed inspected, and the brakes went out, but that turned into a major repair, as the master cylinder was the problem, the front left brake drum and rear left brake drum had to be replaced along with struts and springs, costing nearly a thousand dollars and leaving me without transportation to work for 8 days. Upon getting my car back, I had a 5 day long weekend, and today was on my way to work, when half way up a hill, about 2 miles from town, my car died. I walked back to town to the grocery store and called the tow service, and then called work, where I was told I could only have one hour of emergency time to get to work. The garage informed me that the problem was the fuel pump and it is going to cost a couple hundred dollars to fix.

I got to work with about one half hour to spare on emergency time, only to find out that I have somewhere lost my wallet...no license, no insurance, no credit cards, no checks, and no money.

Well, so how was your day?

And...here we go! Tip of the hat to The Beatles this week :-)

1. There are places where my mind should not go.
2. An umbrella drink on a sandy beach could blow those clouds away.
3. Standing in the checkout line...how boring!
4. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
5. He went out tiger hunting without his golf clubs.
6. I see his face and I can't keep my mind from wandering .
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to Hot cocoa and an eclaire, tomorrow my plans include avoiding the cold and Sunday, I want to relax with a good book!

Thursday Thirteen

I have been away for a while, but this is one meme I always enjoyed, and miss.

Thirteen reasons to like getting older

  1. You can enjoy the "Senior Menu"

  2. People hold the doors for you

  3. You can say what you think, and no matter how tacky your comments are, people accept it is because "you're old!"

  4. You don't have to remember names, and can ask "WHO ARE YOU?" repeatedly

  5. You get discounts, everywhere!

  6. Nobody comments on your lack of taste when you wear outlandish outfits.

  7. You never get carded at the bar!

  8. You can change the subject in the middle of a conversation, and people just go along with the flow

  9. You can wear comfortable shoes (sneakers) with everything

  10. You can take naps in the afternoon

  11. Little children like you

  12. You can have selective memory lapses

  13. You can finally get to retire

Winter

Well, the ol' white stuff is getting pretty deep, and the cold is creeping into my bones. More and more, I find myself hating this weather, and longing for Summer.

I keep looking forward to retirement, when I can pick up and move to a better climate, but every time I turn around, things keep plotting against my plans. At one time, I could look forward to retirement at the ripe old age of 62...but now I have to work to the age of 65.

When I started at Polk, I could retire with full pension after five years of service once reaching retirement age...since then it has gone from 5 to 10 to 15, and is now 20 years, and the new contract will probably move that up yet again.

It is a good thing that I have a burial plot here, because the way things are going, I will more than likely be dead before I can retire.

I do love to look out on the beauty of the season, but more and more, all I worry about is falling and breaking something. Funny how that takes some of the pleasure of enjoying the season and turns it into a real threat.

I have no family here, and most of my friends, are spread out about town, and rarely even call or return calls. Everyone is so tied up with work and family, that they rarely get together any more. Which contributes to the fear of falling that I recently have adopted. But all being said, Winter though beautiful, is a season for the young, when sled rides, ice skating and countless other activities negate the numbing cold that settles into my old bones.

New Year's Resolutions 010

This year, I am going to only make resolutions I know I can keep!
1. I promise to play on the computer and waste countless hours doing nothing.
2. I promise to eat things I like, especially if they are not good for me.
3. I promise to try countless diets for one day, and then forget about it!
4. I promise to watch shows on television that allow me to zone out.
5. I promise to procrastinate...but maybe later.
6. I promise to spend too much on junk.
7. I promise to eat out too often.
8. I promise to laugh at AFHV, and not feel guilty.
9. I promise to cry when I am sad.
10. I promise to feel strongly about some things and feel nothing about others.
11. I promise to love my family, friends, and my dog.
12. I promise to worship as I choose.
13. I promise to read for my own entertainment and not because "IT" is what everyone is reading.
14. And finally I promise to try to keep my resolutions, this year.
Here is hoping you all can make and keep the resolutions that make and keep you happy.
