Procrastination

Here I sit, cuddled up on the couch under a quilt and drinking a cup of coffee, berating myself for putting things on the back burner yet again,

Tuesday, I had planned to take the car to the garage for its annual inspection, then run to AAA to renew the registration as they both run out December 31. Going down the hill I realized that all of the sudden...no brakes. I made it safely to the garage, and the nice man gave me a ride home as the repair would take a little longer than expected previously...still no problem, as I had today off and could pop down to update the registration and stay legal...ha ha ha!!

Well, here it is 7:00 PM, and the car still is not done. No way to get to AAA and I have no way to get to work, unless it is done before noon tomorrow, but the way my luck has been running, with a simple inspection turning into a $1000 repair, I am not holding my breath. But at least, there is only 29 hours left in 2009.

This year (2010), everything I plan will be expected to cost more and take longer than I expect, and, will be completed way before the deadline!

Apologies for yesterday's bitch session, but I was in a dark place and it was cold there. Today isn't much better. but I truly believe we reap what we sow, and I need to get my head into a better place.

Today is the first day of Yule. Today we light the first of four candles and allow the light to permeate our souls and lift us up...for all my witchy friends, have a blessed and happy Yule, and for everyone else, happy holidays, whichever one you celebrate.

Winter

Every year, I hate the cold more and more. I hate shoveling snow, I hate the way my arthritis aches, I hate bundling up, and I hate the way I tend to hibernate.
I am not much a fan of Christmas, anymore, either. I don't have any family here to share with, and I am always working, and yet I never have the money to do anything.
I have always looked forward to the Christmas party with the LALA's. but this year they have decided not to exchange gifts, which was the only thing I truly looked forward to, because it was the one gift I could shop for and enjoyed seeking out the right gift.
I don't think I will even cook, or put up a tree again this year. I work second shift, so there is little time to enjoy the tree. I don't get home until after midnight, and the house is cold, so I head for the comforter, and watch a little TV, then sleep...get up, talk to Mo, feed the dog , get ready and off to work. Repeat.

The Saga continues

Hooray! I have heat. The leaks have been repaired, and shortly after Thanksgiving, they will bring down the furnace (new last winter) down from the other house.

I have 5 days off from Thanksgiving through the following Monday, and I can finish the painting. But for now we are living here, and enjoying the old place...especially Romeo, who seems to love to throw himself down on the floor and roll around like a puppy.

Worser and worser!

Sometimes, I think that I wish I had never grown up. Oh to be like Peter Pan, and live in Never land, where the weather is warm, the food, although imaginary, is free, and everyone sleeps in trees, or caves, or ships.

Life has not been the greatest for a while, and although I get to retire in 2013, the world is about to end in 2012!

At least I won't have to worry about heat. food, shelter, or clean clothing!

The saga of the house continues...the gas company had to install a new gas line from the street to the house, because they had a serious leak...in 2006. It only took 10 days to get that installed, then they found a leak to the furnace and condemned that, and the only other source of heat, a vent less heater, has a leak at the stove and at the shutoff, so I am still without heat.

I have called my heating contractor 3 times without a call back, and it is getting cold in here.

I made a deal to give my house to the neighbor, if he would do the repairs here that he could do, and pay the taxes on the other house. I hired his son to remove the trash to a tune of $80, back in July, and so far that hasn't happened. The lights are only partially installed, and although he did put in a new kitchen faucet, the sprayer has not been connected.

The plumbing repairs have been handled, except now the hot water tank, no longer heats water, the kitchen faucet leaks and the sprayer is not yet installed.

I still have to put a second coat of paint on the living room, paint the ceiling, and trim, but it has been so cold, the paint has been taking 4 days to dry to the touch.

For 2 weeks I slept on an air mattress, with the aid of a sleeping bag, because my furniture is still in the other house, and I got depressed and went into debt and bought new living room furniture....not a good idea, but much more comfortable.

So, if you don't hear from me for a while, don't be concerned, I am sure I will thaw out by July.

Hey, I'm still alive and kicking!

Contrary to what you might have believed, I am here and so far doing fine. Mo got me hooked on Facebook/farmville, and am totally addicted. It allowed me to spend money, without actually spending money. The budget is still not settled, but at least I am getting paid.

The other house is moving along, but not without complications. The entire house had to be re plumbed, because the pipes had frozen and split, even the meter had to be replaced. All the shutoffs had to be replaced and as of today, the outside faucet and the sink both have a little work to finish. The painting has yet to be started, but half of the new lighting has been installed.

We opted for a roof repair instead of a new roof because of the financial situation, but they tell me that it is good and so far I have not seen any leaks.

I spent a lot of time conversing with a very sweet younger man on line, and we have struck up a sweet friendship, and he has an accent and accents have always made me weak in the knees. But since he is quite a distance away, the Internet is all we have to relate. And at my age, maybe that is for the best.

This month will be the big push at the house. With Winter just around the corner, I need to get in and get a furnace installed. Not that the money situation is any better, but you have to do what you have to do, On the up side, the car will be paid off on the 15th of October, and I can start getting NFG paid so they will connect the furnace.

I have missed you, and promise to take pictures as we progress.

One more thing

More bad news today. I work for the state and although we must continue to work, we will not be paid until the budget is settled. For most of us that live from pay to pay, me included, that unfortunately means that we will quite possibly be living without gas, electric, water, phone, cable, and may loose our cars (the means to go to work), let alone food.

Then to top it off, the house has to be completely re plumbed. Joy of joys.

I have to come up with $2400 in taxes before August 31, and paychecks will stop with the first pay in July.

But it could be worse...at least I am still employed, and I 'm healthy, for the most part. I have a great daughter, good friends , (all in the same boat). For the most part, I am trying to stay positive, but I need to vent.

My daughter is 2000 miles away and they are no better off, and I can't help, and that is what hurts. I would love to be able to help them out, although she won't hear of it. But I can't help feeling like the world's worst mother.

As Promised

Today, I took some before photos of the repairs that need to be done to mom's house. One of the neighbors came out and stated she had a friend who wanted to rent it, as is...NEVER...NEVER be a landlord, if you can help it!
The other neighbor is going to put on the new roof, as soon as I get another $450, for material, and I have been picking up some supplies for the other repairs.

I will be showing progressive photos s we go along, but I think I will post on my other blog http://justarundownshack.blogspot.com/ so be sure to check in from time to time...and leave your comments.

I'm moving home!

I am going to move into Mom's house. There is a ton of work to be done (not as much as on mine), and I just can't seem to get a break with the weather, or scrounge up the energy to get going.
The tenants left it in a terrible state of disrepair, and not all of it is cosmetic. Check out the missing flashing, the state of the yard, and the rusted out railings, just to mention a few.
The painting alone is going to keep me busy for ever. Then the missing ceiling in the dining room, the repair to the living room hardwood floor, removal of the long out-dated paneling, the dangerous improper installation of the hot water tank, the 3 inches of mud in the basement, etc. will keep me in the poor house and in debt for the $2300 in taxes.
WELL, it's a good thing that I am incredibly rich...oh yea, I'M NOT!
I will post pictures of the before and after, soon, but it's going to be while before it's done, so be prepared to check back from time to time.

Mom's house

Quotes and Sayings MySpace Comments and Graphics

Comments - Graphics - Layouts - Photobucket

I am planning on moving down to my mother's house, sometime in the very near future. The place is in dire need of TLC, but my house is in far worse condition. It is going to take about three years to get the place in shape, and every cent I can spare, but by then I should be able to enjoy getting the outside looking good enough to sell and retire...somewhere warm.

My neighbor is going to buy this place, and tear it down, so I m giving it to him for the price of the land alone. They have been the best neighbors I could have ever have hoped for, so it's a fair trade.

I had a string of terrible tenants, and then a strung of worse tenants, and the laws are against landlords, so getting them out was a hassle. The last set were supposed to be buying on a rent to own thing, and did the worst damage. I'm in a quandary as to where to start.

There is a string of half done projects, terrible ideas, and jerry-rigged repairs they, in their twisted minds attempted.

I plan on sharing some before and after pictures soon, So if you are in need of a good laugh, keep tuned.

Only The Good!

Tonight as I arrived home, I checked my facebook and had not 1 but 2 e- mails.
First, Shelly accepted me as her friend, which was nice (thank you Shelly), AND the #2 e-mail was from Doug Kershaw. I'm a small town nobody, but I adore, adore, adore listening to this man play the fiddle! AND to have him take the time to send me an e-mail, knocked my socks off.........THANK YOU DOUG....you made my day!

Save me from wanna-be's

For the past couple of days, I have been sitting at the hospital with a couple of the individuals. I don't mind sitting, because, it is somewhat restful, and the food in the cafeteria is good.

The reason I decided to do it this time, is a bit two-fold, ie: the pulls are so screwed up and we have a girl who is on light duty, who is W A Y out there.

She believes her daughter was born to cast out demons and her daughter's boyfriend is enjoying being periodically possessed.

I listened to her rhetoric and handed her a total line of bull crap, only to be told that I was correct in what I said. I told her there were 767,256 demons and she stated she knew that I was right...spooky to say the least.

This person has alienated almost everyone she has worked with, and I attract lost causes, puppies, children and alcholics. I just can't abide posers. She tries to tell me some of the most outlandish things, and I'm just not in the mood for her witchy parlor games. I'm about ready to go bad witch on her ass, and I don't need the bad karma.

Well, that's where I stand right now, caught between the demons and the deep blue funk!

As I sit here writing this down, I realize that this is good for a laugh, and I certainly could use a good laugh or twenty! I hope anyone reading this can sympathise with my evasive techniques.

Holiday Wishes (little late)

The feast of Ostara takes its name from the Goddess Eostre, of whom little is known, except that she must have been a Goddess of spring, fertility, rebirth, and the rising sun. Her name is etymologically connected with both the "east," and with a word for "shining; glorious." The Ostara worship was so strong in the Germanic lands that the somewhat similar Christian feast of rebirth and renewal was given the Goddess's name. Bede recounts that the Christian Paschal feast was named after the heathen Goddess Eostre, and so this celebration is still named Easter among the Christians. There is no specific date on which the Ostara feast must be held. The three mightiest times at this turning of the year are the equinox itself and the new and full moons following the equinox. It is probably better in general to celebrate Ostara during the waxing moon.

Only the Good

Today was the first day of the second half of a six day mini-vacation for me. That was enough to be posted as my only the good, but I also got to treat a friend to a realllllly good fish dinner. Number 2 reason to post to only the good, but there were a few young, good looking men who were playing pool right beside the table (eye candy) again, reason number 3, they were sweet and flirting with the 2 old...er, ladies (Marilyn & me) ...reason #4. The conversation was good, the atmosphere was fine, and the beer was cold...reasons 5 & 6...Now to say the one young man was sooo good looking would be an understatement, BUT he was wearing a recent fashion statement that I cannot understand, ie: his pants were worn below his buttock and belted there, so I had to speak up. I waited and went up to him as I was leaving and asked IF I might make a comment and not anger him...he smiled and his buddies started to giggle. Evidently, they too had made a comment on his style choice, as their pants were properly placed upward.

He was so cute, and I said "I know it's the style, but I am an old woman, and I can speak for the majority of us, we check out young men, especially when they are as handsome as you, (here is when he turned RED)but the first thing we check out is the bootee, and you're not giving yours a chance!" What a sweetie he was, just saying "I have great bootee!"
AT 60 you can get away with outlandish things you can't at 20 something. Being 60 is my reason #7 ....all in all it was a good time.

a good day except for...

Yesterday we took the ladies to dinner at the Golden Corral, followed by shopping at Kraynaks. This is usually a grand time, but this trip was marred by a single family of 8 people who are the most ignorant I have ever encountered.

We were seated in a dining room off to the side, because it is hard to fit 5 wheelchairs, 3 walkers, and 4 staff around a single table, we needed 4 tables.

I understand, people wanting their dining experience to be somewhat exclusive, but at a restaurant like this, you expect, or should expect some diversity.

To say these people were rude, would be an understatement. I have been working with the special people for 10 years, but it never ceases to upset me when people act like they can catch mental retardation. I would have felt bad, had they simply have changed their seats, but the rude comments that came out of their and their children's mouth was just hurtfull.
These people don't care who they hurt.

Our ladies may be special, but they understand. They have feelings, and they know when people make fun of them.
I so wanted to go out and take their picture and post it, but that would have put me at their level of cruelty, so I can only hope that they never have to have anyone in their family who is special, because too many times, these special people only have the staff as family. Our ladies range of age from 50 to 91, some have family, some do not, but all are loved by us, the staff. And we are loved and enriched by them in return.

The Pre-dinner Dance

Last Saturday was our annual dinner dance for the individuals at work. We always have a great time, but we do not eat at the dance, because there is just too much to be done to enjoy a meal...and not enough time either.

The individuals eat there, dress for the occasion (sometimes) and have their pictures taken, and socialize with their peers.
Our ladies are older, and although the theme this year was the 70's, they opted to dress a little more "Today".
They all had a good time, and by the end of the night everyone was exhausted....especially the staff. The staff in our cottage less one enjoyed a pre-dance meal at Primo Barone's and had deserts to die for!
The others all opted for Creme Brulee, but I opted for the Raspberry thing that you can see here.

mm meeme

MONDAY MOVIE MEME

Molly looked around for a weekly meme about movies and did not have any luck. So therefore she decided to start her own! Andy will play along as well - hopefully you will too. Leave a link to your blog post where you’ve shared your response or, if you don’t have a blog, share your response in the comment section at the end of this post.

This week's movie topic is all about Eye Candy...

The greatest thing about "eye-candy" is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That said, here are some of my favorites, in no particular order, some you may recognise, some you may not, depending on your age....this one I did enjoy!
